ULMUS es un fotolibro que recoge una serie de fotografías realizadas en Montiel, Ciudad Real, durante el otoño de 2020. A través del retrato documental tanto del estado actual del pueblo, comode mis abuelos maternos, el deterioro, la vejez, y el abandono están presentes a lo largo del relato fotográfico. Las zonas de Españas que han sido azotadas por la despoblación se encuentran con sus pocos habitantes, nuestros mayores, los que se han quedado y los que vuelven en la temporada de verano y les devuelven la vida a los pueblos durante varios meses.
A raíz de la crisis sanitaria de la COVID-19, en julio de 2020, mis abuelos vuelven al pueblo con la pretensión de pasar el resto del verano allí, pero el miedo y la inseguridad hace que su estancia allí se extienda hasta el otoño. A pesar de que cada año volvían al pueblo, el hecho de prolongar su estancia más allá del verano es excepcional, al igual que el 2020.

ULMUS is a photobook that brings together a series of photographs taken in Montiel, Ciudad Real, during the autumn of 2020. Through the documentary portrait of the current state of the village, as well as of my maternal grandparents, the deterioration, the old age, and the abandonment are present throughout the photographic narrative. The areas of Spain that have been hit by depopulation meet their few inhabitants, our elders, those who have stayed and those who return in the summer season and bring life back to the villages for several months.
Following the COVID-19 health crisis in July 2020, my grandparents returned to the village with the intention of spending the rest of the summer there, but fear and insecurity meant that their stay there extended into the autumn. Although they return to the village every year, extending their stay beyond the summer is exceptional, as is 2020.
